Celution™ Breast Augmentation:
Using Your Own Fat to Enhance Your Breast Size?
A new study is underway to evaluate the effectiveness of using stem cells from fat tissue to increase breast size. Using the Celution™ technique, fat tissue is taken from the patient’s stomach, thigh, or buttocks using a minor liposuction-type procedure, then placed into the Celution™ system. The Celution™ system extracts stem cells from the fat. About an hour later, following a tissue wash, cell processing, and concentration, a prescribed dose of regenerative cells are reinjected into the breast where they are used to grow new breast tissue.
The Celution™ system is currently being tested for use in women with breast cancer to reconstruct the breast after a lumpectomy or partial mastectomy, but there is a possibility that it could be used for breast augmentation in the future.
Celution™ breast augmentation has not yet been approved for use in the United States by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It is expected to be available in Europe for breast reconstruction in 2009. For information about your current options for breast augmentation, contact a board certified plastic surgeon.
